Stretch marks are irregular stripes that appear on the surface of the skin. They are as a result of rapid growth of the body. For example, pregnant women put on weight rapidly and it causes the inner layer of the skin to overstretch.

This overstretching of the skin causes scars (known as stretch marks). Stretch marks are commonly seen on the breasts, lower back, abdomen, buttocks, thighs and upper arm.

It first appears with a reddish/pinkish or purplish colour. Its colour can fade after a while. Causes of stretch marks include pregnancy, overweight, bodybuilding, genetic factors, hormonal changes (puberty), health conditions, medications like oral steroids and corticosteroid creams.

Stretch marks do not pose any medical risks.

However they can make one become worried and this can affect one’s self-esteem. Though personally, I don’t think stretch marks make you less pretty or handsome. I’ve had mine for a couple of years now and I’m not worried about it.

Stretch marks can fade out on their own after a long time. But they cannot be completely removed.

These remedies will help to fade out stretch marks faster. But you need to apply them consistently. And it will take some time before you see the results.

Coconut oil:

When it comes to the skin, coconut oil is amazing. Using extra virgin coconut oil on the affected areas helps to fade the stretch marks.

It helps to nourish and hydrate the skin. Coconut oil is light and it’s easily absorbed into the skin. Apply coconut oil and massage for 5 to 10 minutes. Apply immediately after bath and twice daily.

Cocoa butter:

Pure cocoa butter is an excellent remedy for fading stretch marks. Many companies infuse cocoa butter into different skin care products.

This is because of its numerous contents. Cocoa butter is rich in fatty acids and polyphenols that rejuvenate the skin. It is an excellent emollient for the skin.

It is made from cocoa beans. It is easily absorbed into the skin when applied. It helps to nourish the skin. Apply twice daily. Massage thoroughly into the skin.

Aloe vera gel:

Aloe vera gel has anti-inflammatory and soothing properties. It’s suitable for skin conditions like acne, sunburns and stretch marks.

It also promotes the formation of new skin cells. Massage the affected areas with aloe vera gel before going to bed.

Important Tips

·         Apply these remedies in small quantities first to check if your skin is sensitive to them.
·         Drink enough water to keep the skin hydrated (always keep a bottle of drinking water around you all day).

·          A lot of people easily get worried over stretch marks. You shouldn’t allow it to weigh you down. It might interest you to know that 80% of Americans have stretch marks. So it’s nothing new. Don’t ever think that you’ve become ugly because of stretch marks. And like I said earlier, absence or presence of stretch marks does not make any difference to beauty.

Would love to hear from you…
